Plan of Salvation

1. Admit that you're a sinner.

Every single one of us have done sinful things in our life. It's a consequence that traces all the way back to Adam and Eve. Sin is what created the gap between us and God.

  • Romans 3:1
  • Romans 3:23

 2.  Sin deserves death.

The ultimate punishment for sin is death. We were born into sin, and we can't escape it on our own.

  • Romans 6:23

3. Believe that Jesus died for our sins on the cross, rose again, and is our Savior.

God loves you and me so much that He sent his only Son Jesus to this earth. Roughly 2,000 years ago, Jesus died an excruciating death on the cross. This was to pay for our sins and bridge the gap between sin and God. His death made a way for us to reach Heaven! After 3 days of being buried in a tomb, Jesus arose from the grave! He is the Savior of the world and is coming again for us one day.

  • Romans 5:8
  • John 3:16

4. Confess that Jesus is Lord and call upon His name.

All God wants is for us to WANT Him back. He doesn't force His love on us. We have our own free will to choose this gift of salvation. If we choose to deny Him, unfortunately that does mean we do not receive eternal life in heaven. However, if we choose to call on Jesus..if we choose to surrender our hearts and lives and follow Jesus in this world, He promises to give us joy and eternal life in Heaven!

Remember that there are no works or special missions you can do on earth to secure a place in heaven. Only salvation through Jesus will give you eternal life in heaven.

  • Romans 10:9-10
  • 1 John 1:9

5. Pray for Salvation.

Prayer is our way to speak directly to Jesus. When we pray for salvation, this is a very intimate matter and it requires our whole heart. Below is an example prayer - you can pray something similar or word for word. The key is you must mean it and you must be willing to give your life to Him. The prayer is asking God to forgive you of your sins, telling Him that you believe He is our Savior, and you MUST invite Him to come live inside your heart! This is giving total surrender to Jesus and allowing Him to lead your life.

(God, I’m a sinner and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe You died for my sins and rose from the dead. I ask You to come into my heart and life. I want to trust & follow You as my Lord & Savior.)

6. Assurance of Salvation.

Here are some verses that promise that your salvation is the real deal. Once you're saved you are always saved. Nothing can separate you ever again from the love of God. Remember that.

  • Romans 10:13
  • Ephesians 2:8-9
  • 1 John 1:9

7. Grow in your New Faith.

  • Baptism

If you are newly saved, congrats! The next step is baptism. Baptism is not the same as a "sprinkling" when we were kids. Baptisms and/or sprinklings do not save us.  Baptism is an outward expression of an inward change. It’s a public declaration of how Jesus changed your life. Being baptized shows others that you’ve decided to follow Jesus, and allows them to celebrate this decision with you.

  • Read the Bible

This is important! Your Bible is a weapon against Satan and a source of truth. God can work on you through His Word. In order to grow spiritually we must be spiritually fed. Good books to start with are the beginning books of the New Testament (like Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1&2 Corinthians, Ephesians).

  • Pray Daily

Prayer as a Believer is a direct line to Jesus. It strengthens our relationship with Him.

  • Get plugged in with other believers (small groups, church, ministries)

I suggest a grounded church that teaches the Word of God. Look at the church website when you are searching for a place to start. Their beliefs page will tell you what they believe. Make sure it aligns with the plan of salvation.

Finding other Christians to have fellowship and accountability with is so beneficial.

  • Share the Good News!

Jesus said to share the gospel to everyone in the world. Get involved in your community and however you are able to. God's love through you can change lives of other people too. There may be friends who are skeptics of your new life, but don't worry....These are the people you should love the most and pray for. Show them how your life has changed and they will see the joy you have from within.
